6What do I do if my honey has crystalized?
All honey will naturally crystallize, given enough time. To get rid of unwanted crystals, submerge the bottle in warm water until they return to liquid form.
7What’s the difference between filtered and unfiltered honey?
Filtered honey has been filtered to the extent that all or most of the fine particles, pollen grains, air bubbles, or other materials normally found in suspension, have been removed. Strained (unfiltered) honey has been strained to the extent that most of the particles, including comb, propolis, or other defects normally found in honey have removed, however, grains of pollen, small air bubbles, and very fine particles would not be removed.
8If my honey has darkened, is it still safe to eat?
Over time the honey will darken and flavor will change but it will be safe to eat indefinitely. As it darkens, it may lose some flavor or become cloudy. As the honey becomes cloudy, you may even notice crystals in it. This will not make the honey unsafe as long as it has been stored properly. Honey stored in the refrigerator will crystallize more quickly.
9Why can’t I feed honey to babies under one year of age?
Babies under one year of age should not be given honey. Honey can, in extremely rare circumstances, contain a spore of a bacterium called clostridium botulinum. This can cause a rare form of food poisoning (botulism) in newborn babies.
10What is the best way to store honey?
Always store honey at room temperature and out of direct sunlight.
